Choosing and using this product

This pump is selected as part of an engine-driven installation, so port size is only one of the details to match. Check the drive arrangement, available shaft speed, mounting space and intended liquid before choosing a replacement. The pump's output depends on its rotational speed and the resistance of the connected system. A capacity quoted at a particular speed and head must not be treated as its delivery under every operating condition.

Plan the drive and plumbing together. The pulley or coupling must suit the actual shaft, belt arrangement and alignment, and the mounting needs to support the pump without forcing the pipework to carry its weight. Leave access for the cover, impeller and seal service work. Select fittings that match the stated connection standard; a BSP thread is not interchangeable with every other nominally similar pipe thread. Keep suction connections sound and the intake clear, following the manufacturer's recommendations for the intended service.

A flexible-impeller pump must not be allowed to run dry. Confirm that the inlet supply is available before engagement and follow the maker's priming and operating instructions. Check the impeller material against the liquid and temperature rather than assuming one impeller suits all fluids. For engine-cooling or other consequential service, have the complete installation and required duty checked by a competent marine technician. Inspect the system during commissioning for leaks, drive alignment and reliable delivery at the intended operating conditions.
