Choosing and using this product

A portable hand pump is useful for moving accessible water from a small boat or for clearing water left where a fixed pump cannot conveniently reach. It can be stored close to the area where it will be used and brought into position when needed. The pump still needs an accessible water source and a suitable discharge destination; it should not be selected solely on its overall length.

Compare the body length with the available storage space and with the depth of the area you need to reach. Allow additional room for the handle to move through its working stroke. Where a discharge hose is supplied, arrange it so water leaves the boat or enters a suitable container without flowing back into the compartment. Keep the inlet clear of loose objects and hold the pump in a stable position while working. A hose connection or adaptor should be checked against the actual installation rather than assumed to fit an existing opening.

Before relying on a hand pump, practise using it in the boat's normal layout. Manual output depends on stroke rate, suction conditions and the discharge route, so the user's effort and access affect the result. Keep the pump within reach rather than buried beneath stored equipment. Inspect the body, handle and hose for damage, and rinse away grit or debris after use. Follow the maker's maintenance advice and let the equipment dry before storage where appropriate. A portable pump is a useful addition to water-removal equipment, but it does not identify or stop a leak and does not establish compliance with a vessel's equipment requirements. Investigate unexpected water ingress rather than treating repeated pumping as a permanent remedy.
