Choosing and using this product

Choose the gauge by tank contents and sender resistance before considering its appearance. Fuel, water and waste markings help identify the correct tank at a glance, while the resistance range determines whether the gauge can interpret the sender signal. A 0–190 ohm sender and a 240–33 ohm gauge are not a matched pair, even when both can operate from the same boat supply voltage.

Measure the instrument position before making a new hole. Check the cut-out diameter separately from the overall face size, and leave enough space for the rear body, wiring connections and service access. The panel thickness limit matters on consoles with reinforcing pads or decorative overlays. Confirm the available depth behind the panel with cables in their installed position, rather than measuring only the empty cavity.

For a replacement, record the existing wire positions and sender specification before disconnecting anything. Follow the wiring information supplied with the gauge and use the circuit protection required for the installation. A wiring loom is included, but its presence does not establish that the existing boat wiring or sender is compatible. Identify the correct tank circuit clearly if several gauges are mounted together.

Check operation against a known tank level after fitting. A gauge displays the signal supplied by the sender, so unusual readings can also come from an unsuitable sender, wiring fault or tank geometry. Retain the gauge code and resistance range with the boat’s electrical records. This makes later troubleshooting and matching replacement components more straightforward without assuming that all similar-looking instruments share the same specification.
