This socket provides a fixed connection point for compatible portable marine accessories with a cigarette lighter plug. Possible uses include a spotlight or work light, provided the appliance voltage and current requirements match the installed circuit. Positioning a socket near the work area can make temporary equipment easier to use without routing its lead across the helm or a walkway.
Choose the mounting style around the available panel space and access behind it. Check the socket dimensions together with room for the plug body and cable bend, and allow the weather cover to open freely. For general installation, keep electrical connections supported and accessible for inspection, and route the supply cable away from sharp edges and moving equipment.
The voltage printed on the cap is a marking, while the connected supply determines the voltage delivered to an appliance. Label the finished installation clearly if needed, particularly on boats that carry equipment for more than one voltage. Check the appliance, plug, socket, wiring and circuit protection as a complete connection; the lowest applicable rating sets the usable load.
Isolate the supply before wiring and follow appropriate marine electrical installation practices. Confirm polarity and securely terminate the conductors before energising the circuit. During use, keep the lead positioned so it cannot be pulled accidentally, and close the weather cover after unplugging equipment. Periodic inspection of the contact area, cap and cable connections is a useful part of routine boat maintenance, especially where the socket is used outside.
The compact rear-nut format is useful where panel face space is limited. Allow access to tighten the retaining nut behind the panel and check the 45mm body depth before deciding on the final socket location.
