A purpose-labelled portable container helps organise the liquid carried for a trip, with the selected capacity and shape determining how it will fit the storage space.

Choosing and using this product

Choose the container for its labelled contents and keep it dedicated to that use. A water can must not be repurposed from a container that has held fuel. For two-stroke fuel, clearly identify the mixture and prepare it to the engine manufacturer’s requirements; the colour of the can does not specify an oil ratio.

Compare the listed height, length and width with the available locker or rack, including room to lift the handle and remove the cap. Allow for the mass of the contents when selecting a carrying position. A large capacity can be useful, but it should still be manageable for the person who will lift and pour it.

Check the cap, inner seal, spout and any separate vent before filling. Follow the container instructions and the handling requirements for its contents, and never leave a transfer unattended. Keep fuel handling away from ignition sources and make sure the container is properly closed before moving it back to the boat or vehicle.

Secure the can against movement in its intended storage position rather than leaving it loose on the deck. Inspect the body and closure for damage before each trip and clean the outside so leaks are easier to notice. Keep the labelling readable and store the container away from unnecessary heat. Replace damaged components with parts confirmed for the particular Scepter can.
