This reel provides replacement cord for rope-start motors, allowing a workshop or boat owner to cut the length required for a compatible starter arrangement.
Choosing and using this product
Match the cord diameter to the starter pulley, guide and handle specified for the engine. A thicker cord can jam in a mechanism designed for a smaller line, while an undersized line may not sit correctly in the guide or handle. Check the engine instructions for the required cut length and end attachment before removing the old cord.
Disconnect the engine from any unintended starting source and follow the service procedure for the starter. Recoil assemblies can contain a preloaded spring, so use a qualified technician if you are unfamiliar with the mechanism. Keep the original routing and fastening details for reference, but replace damaged guides or handles rather than transferring wear to the new cord.
Cut only the length needed for the particular motor, allowing for the specified end attachments. Do not assume that the reel length describes the amount required for one engine. Wind the cord in the correct direction and confirm that it returns freely, without rubbing on the housing or leaving the handle under inappropriate tension.
Inspect the working cord for glazing, fraying and wear around the guide during normal maintenance. Store the remaining reel clean and dry, away from sharp tools, fuel spills and direct heat. Keep a record of the diameter used so that a later repair can be matched accurately without relying on appearance alone.
Keep the reel controlled while measuring so loose cord does not tangle around tools or machinery. Label any cut spare with its diameter and intended motor, and protect the ends from fraying before storage.
