Choosing and using this product

The selected size is 24mm. Check that working width against the narrowest part of the area to be prepared or coated, including the clearance beside rails, mouldings and fittings. Lay out the equipment before opening the coating so fit can be checked without rushing.

Choose tape width according to the edge being masked and the amount of adjacent surface that needs protection. A broader strip can provide more working margin, while a narrower strip is easier to position around close fittings. Where paint overspray or splashes could travel farther, combine edge masking with a suitable protective sheet.

Check compatibility with both the existing finish and the coating being applied. Masking tape is not automatically suitable for every delicate, freshly painted, textured or weathered surface. Test a small inconspicuous section first and follow the paint supplier's guidance about masking, drying and removal times.

Apply to a clean, dry surface that is free of loose dust, salt, grease and old adhesive. Lay the tape without excessive stretching and press the paint edge down evenly. Wrinkles, gaps and poorly supported corners can allow paint to creep beneath the edge or leave an uneven line.

Plan the job so the tape can be removed at the time recommended for the coating and conditions. Do not assume an outdoor exposure duration or residue-free removal period unless it is stated on the current product packaging. Sunlight, heat, moisture and the condition of the underlying finish can all affect masking results.

Remove carefully without pulling sharply against fragile paint. If a coating has bridged over the tape edge, use the coating manufacturer's removal method rather than tearing across the finished surface. Discard used tape and contaminated masking materials appropriately. Keep the unused roll clean and protected from moisture and dust, with its wrapping retained where practical, so the adhesive edge is ready for the next preparation job.
