Marine 100mm Softwood Emergency Bung with 13-32mm Taper for Boats - RWB1912

100mm Softwood Emergency Bung with 13-32mm Taper. This tapered softwood bung is intended as an emergency plug for skin fittings or other suitable openings. Its taper provides a range of diameters along the body, while the overall length gives material to grip during placement. The selected model's taper and nominal skin-fitting references are listed below. A wooden emergency bung is a preparedness item: it should be chosen and stored so the person dealing with a leak can find an appropriate size quickly, rather than searching for a makeshift plug.

Choosing and using this product

Compare the taper with the actual openings on the boat, including the accessible bore and the space around each fitting. Nominal skin-fitting size is a useful reference, but the opening that must be plugged may differ from a hose size or thread designation. Check that the selected bung can be positioned where it might be needed and that nearby equipment does not prevent access. Keep emergency plugs easy to reach and ensure crew know where they are stored. In a real water-ingress incident, use the boat's emergency procedures, protect people first and seek assistance as needed. A bung is a temporary measure and should not be treated as a completed repair to damaged plumbing or a hull fitting. Inspect the wood and taper during routine safety-equipment checks, and replace a bung that is damaged or no longer suitable for the intended opening. After any emergency use, have the underlying fitting or damage properly assessed and repaired. Choose the size for the specific opening rather than assuming one bung will cover every fitting aboard. Keep the dimensions identifiable with the stored spare.
