This switch is intended to interrupt ignition when the driver's attached lanyard pulls the cap away. The specified closed-circuit-with-cap-off behaviour is a critical compatibility point: have the engine's stopping circuit checked against it before installation. Position the switch so the coiled lanyard can follow normal movement without snagging. Its 320mm to 1.5m extension gives a stated working range to consider when arranging the helm and driver attachment point.

Red safety switch with coiled extendable lanyard and driver attachment clip. The switch separates to cut ignition if the driver goes overboard. The circuit is closed with the cap off.

  • Voltage: 12V
  • Maximum dash thickness: 12mm
  • Shaft stem diameter: 10mm
  • Lanyard extension: 320mm to 1.5m

Correct matching to the engine's ignition stopping arrangement is essential. Have a suitably qualified installer confirm the required circuit behaviour and wiring before fitting this switch. Check the complete mounting thickness against the stated maximum, and allow access behind the dash for connections. Isolate the relevant electrical supply before installation and identify existing wires before disconnecting them.

When arranging the lanyard, assess both seated and standing driving positions. It should attach to the driver as intended without fouling the wheel, throttle or nearby fittings. Avoid routing that could create unwanted tension during normal movement, while preserving the intended separation action if the driver moves away from the helm. Follow the engine and switch instructions for the final arrangement.

Test the stopping function in safe, controlled conditions before relying on it underway, following the equipment manufacturer's procedure. Make use of the attachment part of the normal departure routine. Inspect the lanyard, clip and cap for wear and check the mounting remains secure. Explain its operation to any other driver, and keep the switch reference with the boat's electrical records.

Keep the product identification and relevant operating instructions with the boat’s records so they are available when maintenance or a future replacement is needed.
