A portable or topside fuel tank needs to be chosen as part of the engine’s complete fuel-supply arrangement, including its connection, venting and secure onboard location.

Choosing and using this product

Compare the listed dimensions with the intended space, leaving access to the cap, handle, gauge where fitted and fuel connection. A tank that fits through the locker opening may still need extra room for a hose bend or for removal. Check that its weight when filled can be handled and supported safely.

Confirm the fuel type permitted for this exact tank and the engine. Similar-looking tanks can have different fuel compatibility and approval status. Match the tank outlet to the correct engine fuel fitting and hose; do not force a connector or assume the tank includes the engine-specific quick coupling. Check whether a return line is needed before planning a diesel installation.

Use a suitable restraint to prevent the tank sliding or tipping, while keeping the vent and fuel line unobstructed. Follow the tank and engine instructions for cap vent operation, filling and connection. Keep fuel handling away from ignition sources, inspect seals and hose connections, and stop using the system if any leakage or damage is found.

Leave enough access for regular inspection and cleaning around the tank. Where a gauge is fitted, treat its indication as a guide and plan fuel reserves for the trip rather than relying on a gauge alone.
