This bend-adjustable stainless steel retaining hook provides a storage location for a round lifebuoy or other suitable equipment on board.

Choosing and using this product

Check the shape and section of the item to be held before bending the hook to suit. The stated maximum holding diameter is 125mm, and the hook can be adjusted down from that size. Make the adjustment with the equipment removed and check the finished shape for a secure fit without sharp contact points.

Choose a location that keeps the lifebuoy or equipment readily accessible. Do not place the hook behind a seat, inside an obstructed locker or where ropes can become tangled around it. If carrying safety equipment, practise removing it quickly so that the storage arrangement does not delay access when it is needed.

Choose fixings to suit the mounting surface and the fitting holes. Check what is behind the panel before drilling, and avoid tightening screws so hard that a plastic base distorts. Where a fitting is placed on a thin panel, arrange suitable backing rather than relying on the skin alone. Installation strength depends on the substrate as well as the clip.

Check the grip with the actual equipment after installation. A storage clip is not a rated lifting point or a substitute for a transport restraint on heavy equipment. Inspect the base and fastening points periodically, rinse trapped salt and sand away, and replace a damaged fitting before cracks or loss of grip allow the item to move around.

For a replacement installation, compare the new base with the old screw positions before reusing any holes. Repair enlarged holes or select a sound mounting location rather than relying on loose fasteners to hold the equipment.
