Choosing and using this product

The selected size is 230mm. Check that working width against the narrowest part of the area to be prepared or coated, including the clearance beside rails, mouldings and fittings. Lay out the equipment before opening the coating so fit can be checked without rushing.

Match the roller width to the frame and tray before beginning the job. A cover must fit its frame securely and rotate freely; a nominally similar size does not establish compatibility with every roller system. Select the nap and cover type recommended by the coating manufacturer for the substrate and finish required.

Plan the application around the shape of the boat surface. Smaller rollers can be easier to control around fittings and confined areas, while wider rollers cover uninterrupted panels with fewer passes. Keep a suitable brush available for edges or places the roller cannot reach without touching nearby hardware.

Prepare and clean the substrate as directed for the coating, then stir or mix the paint according to its instructions. Add only a manageable quantity to the tray. Load the roller evenly and roll off excess before transferring it to the surface, rather than letting paint collect heavily at the ends of the cover.

Work in controlled sections, maintaining the wet edge and film build specified for the paint. Pressing harder is not a substitute for loading the roller correctly and can leave an uneven finish. Check lighting and access before starting so that missed areas and runs can be seen while the coating is still workable.

For antifouling or solvent-containing coatings, follow the label's protection, ventilation and clean-up requirements and capture waste rather than allowing it into drains or waterways. Solvent resistance of an inner core does not establish compatibility with every coating formulation. Check the paint manufacturer's advice, clean reusable equipment before paint hardens and keep residue away from bearings, threads and storage areas.
