Black Plastic Transom Protector Pad - 270 x 100mm | Marine Accessories

Heavy plastic pad fastens to the dinghy transom to protect it from outboard clamp wear.

This transom pad provides a separate contact surface for an outboard motor clamp, helping protect the area that is repeatedly loaded when a motor is fitted and removed.

Choosing and using this product

Lay out the pad against the transom with the motor safely supported. Check that both clamp pads land fully within its outline and that the motor bracket still seats correctly on the top edge. The pad should not obstruct the clamp screws, steering movement or access needed to tighten the motor securely.

Inspect the transom before installation. A protective pad does not repair soft timber, cracked laminate or an inadequate motor mounting structure. Resolve structural damage before fitting the motor, and choose fasteners appropriate to the transom construction and the countersunk holes. Avoid projecting screw heads beneath the motor clamp contact area.

Account for the pad thickness when checking the opening of the motor clamps. Tighten the motor in accordance with its instructions and check that it cannot rock on an uneven surface. Do not add loose packing merely to make a poorly fitting clamp arrangement reach. Keep the pad flat against its supporting surface.

When removing the motor, clean grit from the pad and inspect the contact areas for local damage. Recheck the pad fixings and motor clamps before each outing, especially after road transport. Use the motor manufacturer’s recommended secondary retention arrangement where applicable, and keep access to the clamps clear so routine checks are easy to carry out.

Use the five countersunk holes to plan a neat installation that leaves the clamp contact area unobstructed. Mark the positions only after checking the motor location, rather than centring the pad on appearance alone.
