Heavy-duty stainless steel replacement head with two pre-drilled fastening holes for external mounting over a pole.

A replacement boat hook head lets you retain a serviceable pole while renewing the working end used to gather a line or bring a loose item within reach.

Choosing and using this product

Confirm the required pole diameter before ordering this replacement: published size information differs between the current listing and catalogue. Measure the existing head and shaft, including taper and engagement depth, so the attachment can be checked accurately.

Check the way the head joins the pole before ordering. An external-fitting head slides over the end of the shaft, while an internal-fitting head enters the tube. Measure the actual mating surface with callipers rather than relying on the nominal pole size. A sleeve, end plug or old adhesive can change the available clearance.

Inspect the pole end for splits, distortion and corrosion before reusing it. Trial-fit the head and check that it seats straight without excessive movement. Follow the appropriate fastening arrangement for the pole material, keeping any screw ends or sharp edges away from hands and ropes. Do not force a poorly matched head onto a shaft.

Choose a pole length that allows useful reach while leaving a comfortable grip. During use, keep a stable footing and avoid leaning outside the boat to gain extra distance. Use the hook to retrieve or guide light items; do not use it as a lifting device, a person-recovery attachment or a substitute for a properly secured mooring line.

After fitting, practise picking up a loose line from the deck before relying on the hook alongside a berth. Rinse salt and grit from the joint, check for looseness and store the assembled pole in accessible retaining clips. Inspect the hook tips and attachment again if the pole has been dropped or trapped against a pontoon.
