Varnished Wooden Oars with Stops - 1.95m Pair - for Dinghy and Boat Rowing
Finely sanded, grain-sealed wooden oars with a varnished finish. Strong and lightweight for easy handling.
Choosing and using this product
Select oar length with the boat’s beam, rowing position and rowlock spacing in mind. The longest available pair is not automatically the best choice: there needs to be comfortable handle clearance inboard and a practical blade position in the water. Compare the stated length with an existing pair that rows well, or check the boat builder’s guidance when setting up a new rowing position.
Confirm the fit at the rowlocks before heading out. The shaft must work with the selected rowlock arrangement, and any stops should sit where they keep the oars correctly positioned during the stroke. Plain oars and versions supplied with stops are distinct options, so check the details below when ordering replacements or completing a new setup.
Plan storage for the full oar length. Measure the locker or securing position and make sure the oars can be removed without shifting essential safety gear. Secure them for travel so they cannot slide into controls or become a trip hazard. When carrying oars as backup propulsion, keep the matching rowlocks accessible and practise deploying the arrangement in sheltered conditions.
Use a controlled stroke and avoid levering the blade against rocks or using the oar as a structural support. After use, rinse off salt and grit and inspect the blade, shaft, grip and stop area for damage. Let the oars dry before prolonged enclosed storage. Maintain the finish according to the material and stop using a damaged oar until it has been assessed. Keeping a simple record of the length and product code makes it easier to obtain a matching replacement later without guessing from appearance alone.
