Ritchie Helmsman Flush Mount Compass - PowerDamp Flat-Card Dial - Black
Choose the black Helmsman with the PowerDamp flat-card dial when the compass will be viewed from above. This reading format is the important difference from the black CombiDamp model. Both the panel opening and the viewing angle deserve attention before selecting the installation position.
A marine compass provides a magnetic heading reference, so its position and compensation matter alongside the dial size. Choose a location where the intended reader can see the heading clearly, and follow the installation instructions to assess magnetic influences from nearby equipment. A convenient physical mounting point is only part of selecting a suitable position.
The movement and housing features in the specifications identify this particular model. Compare them with the required mounting arrangement rather than assuming that all compasses in the same family share the same footprint. Where night lighting is specified, account for its connection separately from the compass’s magnetic heading function.
Use the overall dimensions to check the surrounding space and any sun-shield movement. A stated body or flange dimension is not automatically the installation cut-out size. Confirm the current fitting template and actual unit before cutting a panel or drilling the mounting surface. This is particularly useful when replacing a compass that looks similar but has a different lower body or base.
Select the exact dial style, mounting type and finish listed here. Together, those details determine how the compass fits the helm and how its heading can be viewed. The specification list keeps the model’s features and approximate envelope measurements together for comparison.
