Choose the shackle to suit the fitting
Padlock selection starts with the hasp or other fitting it must pass through. Compare the shackle diameter, available clearance and body size with the hardware on your boat. A standard and a long shackle can suit different arrangements, so use the specific version in this listing when planning your purchase.
Selection and fitting
Check that there is enough space to insert the key and open the shackle when the surrounding door or locker is closed. Avoid an arrangement that leaves the lock under sideways pressure. Keep the key location practical for routine access and include the lock in your regular cleaning checks. Material and finish should be considered alongside fit; neither appearance nor size alone establishes a security rating.
Use the stated measurements to compare this version with the item being replaced. Overall dimensions, fixing centres and working clearances can describe different parts of a fitting, so check each relevant measurement separately. A quick comparison with the existing installation helps you choose the appropriate size before committing to new holes or changes to surrounding hardware.
For a refit, take measurements before removing the existing item and retain a note of its position and orientation. This gives you a useful reference when checking the replacement and helps keep related fittings aligned throughout the job.
