Make better use of available cabin space
Storage fittings work best when their size and access direction match the space available. Compare the outside dimensions with the room around the installation, then check any cut-out and depth measurements separately. Plan the position so that the intended contents can be reached without interfering with seats, controls or nearby doors.
Selection and fitting
Before making an opening, inspect behind the panel for cables, hoses and other equipment. Allow clearance for lids, doors or removable contents where applicable. Check what is included with the specific version, particularly when similar products offer different doors, trays or lock arrangements. Keep the compartment clean and avoid overloading it with items that prevent normal closure. Recheck mounting points and moving parts as part of regular boat upkeep.
Use the stated measurements to compare this version with the item being replaced. Overall dimensions, fixing centres and working clearances can describe different parts of a fitting, so check each relevant measurement separately. A quick comparison with the existing installation helps you choose the appropriate size before committing to new holes or changes to surrounding hardware.
For a refit, take measurements before removing the existing item and retain a note of its position and orientation. This gives you a useful reference when checking the replacement and helps keep related fittings aligned throughout the job.
