    ### Stainless Steel Paint Scraper - 50mm RWB4292 | Marine Boat Maintenance

Flat stainless steel paint scraper with wooden handle.

### Choosing and using this product

The selected size is 50mm. Check that working width against the narrowest part of the area to be prepared or coated, including the clearance beside rails, mouldings and fittings. Lay out the equipment before opening the coating so fit can be checked without rushing.

Choose scraper width to match the area being prepared and the access around it. A narrower blade can reach confined spaces beside fittings, while a wider blade covers more of a flat surface. Inspect the edge and handle before use and avoid treating a paint scraper as a pry bar or striking tool.

Identify the surface and coating before starting. Fibreglass gelcoat, timber and painted metal require different levels of care, and forceful scraping can remove more than the unwanted coating. Start with a small, inconspicuous area and use controlled pressure with the blade at an angle that lifts loose material without digging into the substrate.

Support your work position and keep your free hand out of the blade's path. Work away from edges and hardware that could catch the tool unexpectedly. If the coating is firmly bonded, stop and choose the preparation method recommended for that coating instead of increasing force until the surface is damaged.

Collect loosened paint and debris as you work. Old marine coatings can require specific handling and disposal precautions, particularly when the coating history is unknown. Follow the coating supplier's guidance and local requirements for protective equipment, dust control and waste collection. Do not wash scrapings into the bilge, stormwater system or surrounding water.

After scraping, inspect the exposed surface for remaining loose edges, contamination or damage before applying a new coating. Further cleaning, fairing or sanding may be required by the paint system. Clean the blade with a method appropriate to the residue and dry the tool before storage. Protect the working edge in the tool kit so it does not damage other equipment or present an unexpected sharp edge when retrieved.
